Just 6 short months ago I was over 18 stone, I was unhappy with how I looked, how I felt about myself, how I felt I was perceived in a male dominant work place. Of course, you wouldn't have known. I continued to be my bubbly outgoing self to the world, but inside I felt sick of me for what I was doing and for the effect it could have on my 6 year old son.

My name is Grant Mclachlan, I am 21 years old and a chef from the Southside of Glasgow. When I left school at 16, I found myself working long hours and spending what little time I had, drinking heavily and smoking. Over the next five years I gradually put on weight leaving me with little confidence and really unhappy with myself. I always wanted to join a gym or start some sort of exercise programme, but I was too embarrassed as well as always claiming to have "little time" when really I was just scared.
At the beginning of March 2009, my older sister made me aware that she and my parents were worried about my weight gain, drinking and smoking. My sister told me that she had a friend who was a personal trainer and a cage fighter who had offered to train me and increase my fitness. I was still a bit sceptical because even though it was one to one training, I was still embarrassed about how I looked. It was then she explained his story, telling me how he used to be like me and turned his life around. This really did it for me and that guys name is Davie! The next day I got a call from him to see if wanted to come down for an hour long free session, to see if I liked it. He explained on the phone that we would get some tunes on, do some boxing and have a laugh. After that first session I was hooked and it has become the best part of my week.
After fifteen weeks, that's fifteen hours training with Davie at the gym, following his advice and carrying out personalised circuit training, I have lost two stone in body fat and feel great. I am now a keen boxer and am looking forward to developing my skills with Davie.
My diet before I started training was terrible. I would snack on anything lying around the kitchen (usually chips) throughout the day. I would then finish work, have a few pints, gins, packets of crisps and nuts, then go home and have a pizza at two in the morning.
Now I am eating twice as much, but I have the knowledge of what to eat and when to eat it. Eating right really is half the battle.

Increased confidence, weight loss, muscle definition, nutritional advice, where do I begin?
Having for many years tried every fad diet and been a member of several gyms I had resided myself to the fact I'd never be happy with my body or get the results I longed for. That was until I found Davie from DMc Fighting Fit Training Systems.
As a 5ft 8 13 stone Bank Manager I hid my confidence issues under my size 16 clothes but longed to get into a size 8. One year on I was on my way to achieving my goal when illness threatened to stop my progression. My confidence was low, weight was high and I felt lower than I had ever before. It was this client/trainer bond that really helped me get back on track, not only in health and training but all aspects of my life.
Since the turn of the year and back into full training I have lost 17 inches, lost over 2 stone, dropped 4 dress sizes, been head hunted by one of the largest multinational banks in the world and most importantly achieved my lifetime dream of a size 8. I am confident to walk into any gym and perform unassisted chin ups, burpees, squatting nearly twice my body weight and numerous sets of various hand position full press up – all that for someone who couldn't even walk up the stairs at Christmas without being out of breath, that's good going!
So it really all is about what you do and not just how much you eat when it comes to losing weight. There's an old myth that the less you eat the lighter you will be, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Eating had always been a stumbling point for me and through Davie I learnt that it's all about eating in proportion to the way you live. I now eat more than ever and look forward to it.

I have been with Davie for over a year now and it would be fair to say that I am a completely different person both mentally and physically.

I am a middle-aged accountant and church organist so perhaps not the type everyone might imagine would enjoy kickboxing. How wrong are they! It is the most satisfying form of exercise I have ever done and not just because of the release of aggression - the training is a great workout and a real confidence booster - my kickboxing session is the highlight of my week.
Davie and I have developed a strong partnership and it is through this that I have recently conquered my mortal dread of water and have started swimming, this I had tried to do four times previously with qualified swimming instructors unfortunately they all deemed me unteachable and gave me a full cash refund. I started training with Davie at DMc Fighting Fit Training Systems in January 2009 not only has it transformed the way I look but also the way I think and the way I exercise. Having suffered massive degeneration of the lower vertebrates due to years in the infantry I was advised around a year ago, by the head neurosurgeon at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary that I should limit my exercise regime to walking and swimming. However my desire to train could not be extinguished and I continued to work out unsupervised, unadvised and in pain. I had started to notice weight gain in places that it hadn't been before and as I had turned 31 and had previously always been thin was adamant that even with my injury I was going to stay that way.
Everything changed for the better when a friend put me in touch with Davie. As an ex forces man myself I found his teaching style to be direct, concise and very informative whilst at the same time his infectious sense of humour made even the toughest session's fun and rewarding. We established goals as a team, which focussed on improving my all over strength and conditioning, due to my injury I thought that the training would maybe have to consist of light weights and high reps, how wrong was I, 6 months on and now I'm leaner and more muscular than I have ever been I can do multiple sets of full unassisted chin ups, bench press and row my body weight and when I get any spare time at home usually when the kids are out or sleeping I push myself through one of Davies's monster press-ups and body weight home routines.
Davie taught me about the importance of recovery right from the start, he taught me about SMR and how to use the foam roller it's through this teaching that I now have to tools to relieve my back pain at the times when it rears its ugly head, Davie and I both know that my condition will always be there as I am too young to be operated on. It would be fair to say I have never looked back since training with DMc and the photos you see are entirely down to his guidance, advice and motivation. I met with Davie in February 2009 to ask his advice on how to shed the baby fat. Having gone through IVF treatment for three years, on my third and last attempt I became pregnant with twins.
How proud and lucky parents we became when Harry and Eve were born on January 2008. The twins were born by caesarean section and due to this I couldn't exercise for around a year afterwards. Initially I did my training myself as I have experience teaching group exercise classes. I struggled with the weight loss and finding time to regain my fitness level was challenging. I wanted to consult a professional trainer with a proven successful track record. I have always been reasonably fit, perhaps training 2-3 times a week, but was finding my usual exercise routine (weights and the treadmill) mundane and uninspiring. It was becoming difficult to motivate myself to train with sufficient intensity for it to make a difference and was simply going through the motions every time I went to the gym. In a nutshell I was bored and simply wasting precious time.
Fortunately I had the presence of mind to realise I was only kidding myself and that change was required if I actually wanted to improve my fitness levels and make tangible progress. I also wanted to learn something new and train in a different manner. I have been going to gyms for most of my adult life and can honestly say Davies's routines are unique, original and demanding. Traditional weights are eschewed in favour of kettle-bells and exercises that utilise one's own body weight. The gym work is supplemented with intense boxing training, which again was totally new to me and something I have enjoyed immensely.
The results speak for themselves. I have lost almost a stone in weight without going on any silly diets and am as fit now as I was in my twenties (I have just turned 40). have been training for the past 10 years (at various levels of regularity) mainly participating in classes and occasionally using gym facilities. My level of fitness was probably above average but I had reached a plateau and felt like my enthusiasm for maintaining, let alone improving, my fitness was waning.

I knew Dave from around the gym and we got chatting one day in the changing room about fat burning. I was going on holiday in 7 weeks and wanted to get into shape for it. I have been training with Davie for about a year now and at the time, my main reason was to increase my motivation to start working out again after a period of not going to the gym through other commitments (excuses!!). I first spoke to Davie around 18 months ago after seeing him putting one of his clients through their paces in the boxing gym and thinking that I liked the look of doing that. I am a semi professional footballer and I have always been reasonable fit and gone to the gym fairly regularly so initially it was really the boxing training that drew me to Davie however after a few sessions Davie was able to get to know both me, my level of fitness and the goals that I wanted to achieve and completely changed the structure of my fitness programme.

I have been a member of several gyms over the years and never considered personal training for myself as I was too self-conscious and thought the 1 to 1 coaching looked a bit intimidating. While I quite enjoyed my own gym sessions, they seldom varied and certainly weren't structured or particularly focused. I've only been working with Davie from DMc for 3 months and even though I thought I was pretty fit, we targeted the loss of 1 stone over 3 months. I achieved this in 2 months using Davies techniques, the beauty of which was that I could use most of them at home without equipment. In that short period I've also become a lot more flexible and my lower back, which has been giving me problems for years, has been strengthened and it would appear, cured.
Before I started working with Davie, I was in need of a boost. My training lacked direction and focus and I was basically going through the motions when in the gym and whilst out running. Running being my main interest.
The initial training sessions with Davie were varied and interesting. I had never used kettlebells before for example or indeed done any proper Boxing training.
